deformation is
the practice of intentionally deforming the skull. There are numerous, well-known examples of
the cultural
practice of intentionally cranial deformation (cf.,
Dingwall, 1931).
However, some culturally-based methods of deformation, such as cradle
boarding, may or may not be intentional. Moreover, the
growth of the skull may be
